Weed abatement is what we do all day, every day. When you call, someone picks up. If we say Tuesday at 9, we're there Tuesday at 9. We take before and after photos on every job, we're fully insured, and about 90% of our jobs are done the same day we start. Yard Sharks is run by Jayden and Jesse, two locals who do genuinely great work. Weed trimming, hedges, brush removal, cleanups, even pressure washing and gutter cleaning. Their early customers clearly love them.
The honest catch: they run a small team. When the busy season hits and every property in the foothills needs cutting at once, expect a wait before they can get to you. If your timeline is flexible, they're a great pick. If CAL FIRE just left a notice on your door, a bigger crew is going to serve you better.
3. Diamondback Yard Services

Diamondback does weed whacking, defensible space clearing, brush removal, gutter cleaning, and hauling all over Tuolumne County. The business is run by a Sonora High student, and honestly, we have a soft spot for that, because that's exactly how Wacky Weedeating started. They work hard and they do good work.
Like Yard Sharks, the trade-off is size. A student-run crew has school, sports, and a schedule that fills up fast in the busy months. For a normal yard on a normal timeline, they're a solid call. For a five-acre hillside that needs to be done before an inspection, you'll want more hands.
4. Wildflower Property Services

Wildflower took over the long-running Diesel's Landscaping route in 2024, so behind the newer name is a maintenance operation that has been serving Sonora, Jamestown, Columbia, and Twain Harte for decades. Recurring mowing, gardening, hedge trimming, leaf removal, irrigation checks. They're reliable, they answer the phone, they show up, and the quality is phenomenal.
For a one-time weed abatement blitz on an overgrown lot, they're not really set up for that, and that's fine. That's not their game. But if what you actually want is a yard that never gets overgrown in the first place, put Wildflower at the top of your call list.
5. Foothill Sierra Pest Control

This one is a different tool for a different job. Foothill Sierra doesn't cut weeds, they spray them. Herbicide treatment for driveways, fence lines, gravel areas, and problem plants like star thistle, poison oak, and blackberry. They've been at it since 1977, they call themselves the region's largest weed control company, and they guarantee re-treatment if the weeds come back.
Cutting and spraying actually work great together. We knock down the standing growth, they keep it from returning. Plenty of properties around here use both.
The One to Avoid: The Suspiciously Cheap Guy
We're not going to name names, because it isn't one company. It's a type. Every spring, ads pop up offering weed abatement for a fraction of what everyone else charges. Tempting, right?
Here's what we hear from homeowners who tried it, over and over. The guy showed up once, did half the property, and never came back. Only one worker showed instead of the promised crew, so a one-day job dragged into a week. Sometimes he was drinking or high on the job. And when something got damaged, there was no insurance to cover it.
