Once most of the leaves are down, rake them up and get them gone. Wet leaves smother your grass, rot into slippery mats on walkways, and hold moisture against your foundation. 3. Roof and Gutters Last
Save the roof and gutter cleaning for the end of leaf drop, so your gutters stay clear all winter. This is the single most important item on the list, and the one most people skip. More on that below.
4. Clear the Extras Before Winter Buries Them
Walk your property once with fresh eyes. That brush pile you have been meaning to deal with, the old junk behind the shed, the culvert full of leaves at the end of the driveway. Handle it now.
